 Dana Fritz [The Land Within Us]

Through photography Dana Fritz investigates the ways we shape and represent the natural world in cultivated and constructed landscapes. She is a Professor in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she teaches photography. She holds a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from Arizona State University. Her honors include an Arizona Commission on the Arts Fellowship, a Rotary Foundation Group Study Exchange to Japan, the 2013 Society for Photographic Education Imagemaker Award and Juror’s Awards in national exhibitions. Fritz’s work has been exhibited in over 60 venues in the last decade including the Center for Photography at Woodstock (New York), Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts, the Griffin Museum of Photography (Massachusetts), Sheldon Museum of Art (Nebraska) and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Missouri) as well as Château de Villandry (France), Xi’an Jiaotong University Art Museum (China) and Toyota Municipal Museum of Art (Japan). Fritz has been awarded artist residencies at Villa Montalvo in California; Château de Rochefort-en-Terre in France; Biosphere 2 in Arizona; and PLAYA in Oregon.

Larry Gawel

The Land Within Us

 Larry Gawel [The Land Within Us]

Through photography Larry Gawel focuses on his interaction with the landscape from perception to cultivation to harvest in various processes including dryplate tintypes, gelatin silver prints and C-prints. He is an Instructor of Photography and the Photography Program Coordinator at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska. He received a BFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1991 and an MFA from the Pennsylvania State University in 1994, both with concentrations in photography. His work has been exhibited in numerous venues including the Southeast Museum of Photography (Florida), the Sheldon Museum of Art (Nebraska), Pittsburgh Filmmakers (Pennsylvania), Truman State University (Missouri), and Toyota Municipal Museum of Art (Aichi, Japan). In 2013 he was selected as an artist with the Lincoln Arts Council’s Community Supported Art program for which he produced tintypes of the various plants and animals that he harvests from the land.
